ANIMAL HEALTH ALERT

Recently, several animal health issues have arisen that may affect you. Diagnosis of EHV-1 and Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) in horses has caused some jurisdictions to update import regulations so it will be important if you are traveling with livestock to get the latest import regulations before you leave.  While these confirmed cases of VS and EHV-1 should have the horse and rodeo industry on alert, it does not mean we will have an outbreak similar to past years. It only means that event organizers and those traveling with livestock should be vigilant, keep up with the latest news on the subject and practice good biosecurity measures. Also, please rely on legitimate sources for your information and do not act on information until State Animal Health officials can confirm it! Read More

Slaughter plants likely to reopen
The last horse processing plant in the United States closed in 2007 in Illinois after slaughter opponents pushed a ban on funding for USDA horsemeat inspection through Congress in 2006. That ban was lifted when passage of a federal funding bill was signed Nov. 18 by President Obama allowing the USDA to inspect horsemeat for human consumption.

Dave Ralph & Ernestly Special  (current 2011 photo to come)

Never has Florida NBHA State Championships been so dominated by one team! Dave and Ernest won the 1st go tied with Joe Peurrung in the open, won the 2nd go of the open, won the Senior 1D Champion Title and won the Open Finals! They walked away titles and winning approximately $7500 in cash, 2 trophy saddles and 2 headstall/breastcollars sets as well.

I am sure many of you have been fans of Dave and Ernest and Team Ralph for couple of years as I have been. If you are like me you didn't know the details, just knew they are fun to watch compete. I hope you enjoy reading about Team Ralph as I did writing about them.

I was just wondering if anyone had used a fat supplement for weight gain on horses, and which one would be preferred? Do they give a horse much more energy? (As this is not needed.) My horse used to get 1.5 scoops AM/1.5 PM and 2 flakes a day. I've had to bumped him up to 3/3 and 6 flakes of Alfalfa a day. I have even power packed him. I've switched to a higher quality feed as well. Still no luck. He isn't being worked any harder than he was before, in fact, maybe less. He's around eight I believe.

the dac bloom and oil are excellent for weight gain and doesn't add extra energy.

Could he be an ulcer horse? I have a 10 yr old gelding who is on a high fat feed (8%) but still tends to run 50-75lbs underweight. I put him on Ramard, Total Gut Health. It has all kinds of stuff in it. It is not a 'weight' product, but because it has everything they need for digestion, they utilize every ounce of nutrition they take in. Mine is a ulcer horse. This product has a money back guarantee and in my opinion is amazing. Within 5 days of puttin him on it he had a bloom to his haircoat. Noticable weight gain within about 2 weeks. Go to ramardinc.om - Everythin they make is off the charts, great.

I doubt it is ulcers. He's a 16.1, 16.2 hand TB. So they are harder keepers. I've dealt with ulcers in horses so I don't suspect he has them. That's a brilliant idea though, thank you!
